Regardless of politics, there’s one thing you can say about President Barack Obama: he’s harnessed all forms of media, especially new media, brilliantly.
There’s a series airing this week on PBS’ Newshour about new/social media and how it’s impacting politics. The Obama White House has hired a new media strategist, and it’s a trend that will likely continue with other politicians and in the workplace from now on.
It’s interesting – in the future, I think it’s likely that new/social media skills will just be expected for a Director of Marketing or Communications (a job I do now). But for now, in this era of ‘in-between’, there’s a need for an expert in new/emerging media to complement the traditional roles in marketing/communications.
Cool times we live in, for sure.
